Seats Available?: Sold Out Required Supplies: - 3 fat quarters about 18” x 20” (Christina recommends solids for best visibility) - 3 pieces of batting 20” x 24” each - 3 pieces of muslin or waste fabric 20” x 24” each - Thread (machine quilting thread is best – no “all purpose” thread). Choose a color slightly lighter or slightly darker than your fat quarters, preferably not black – we avoid strong color contrast as this can be visually jarring. - Quilting gloves – Christina favorites are beaded cotton parade gloves or non-slip gardening gloves as they are lightweight and include grip on the palms as well as fingers. - Curved basting pins (or your preferred alternative, to use below when making quilt sandwiches) - Small scissors - Temporary fabric marker or fabric pen or fabric pencil that will be visible on your fat quarters - Notebook and pen for sketching (larger is better – tiny notebooks are hard to use in class)
Optional Supplies: - A cushion or folded quilt to sit on to allow you to sit higher in relation to the machine.
Prep Requirements: Use the fabric, batting, muslin, and basting pins to make and baste three quilt sandwiches. For each, use a fat quarter on top, batting in the middle, muslin on the back. To baste, use 10-12 pins per sandwich.
Build confidence in quilting your projects smoothly while minimizing gaps and roadblocks! Meandering designs have many variations – and it’s great being able to use them when you need something quilted in a straightforward fashion. Students will explore multiple meandering type designs and Christina will help students find a scale and rhythm that work for them! Students of all levels are encouraged to join, however this is not an introductory workshop so please make sure you have done a bit of free motion quilting on your own before our workshop!
