Seats Available?: Sold Out Required Supplies: - One 14 inch square of solid fabric or fabric that reads as solid - Ten 15” x ¾” skinny strips in a contrasting color. Each of these strips need to be at least 15 inches long but they could be a bit longer. - Neutral thread will be provided with machines by sponsor Aurifil but you may wish to bring a good quality 50wt neutral piecing thread that will work specifically with your fabric choices. - Patchwork Pins - Decent size fabric scissors eg 6-8inch. Snips or embroidery scissors will be too small. (Shared scissors will be provided but you may wish to have your own to maximize class time) - A chalk marker or removable/washable marking pen that will show up on your fabrics. You will be marking on the right side so it needs to be removable/washable. Sharon likes Sewline Trio colours or Clover Chaco Liner or Clover Water Soluble Chalk Pencils.
Optional Supplies: - Varying colour skinny strips instead of ten the same. Note Sharon's samples all use just two colours but this could be a fun effect to try. - A spare bobbin for YOUR machine to take home unused bobbin thread if you brought your own. - Thread snips - If you have space, fast workers might like to bring a second set of fabric to try a different width skinny grid.
Prep Requirements: - Pre cut one square of solid fabric 14” x 14” - Precut 10 x three quarter of an inch wide strips. Yes they’re skinny being under an inch wide but it’s possible. They each need to be 15” long or slightly longer.
Get ready to rethink how you piece skinny strips! In this workshop, Sharon shares her unique method for creating ultra-thin grid blocks—so unexpected it always gets a double take. This technique stabilizes strips as you go, making even needle-width lines easier to handle.
Students will piece a block with lines about 1/4" to 1/8" wide, learning Sharon’s clever cutting, piecing, and seam allowance tricks. The process is simple, scalable, and packed with possibilities. Along the way, Sharon will challenge traditional quilting "rules" and show how understanding the why behind them opens the door to creative freedom and precision.
