Color can be deceptively complex; as 20th-century art educator Josef Albers famously noted: “Color deceives continuously.” In this engaging lecture, MJ demystifies the behavior of color by introducing four essential rules of color interaction. By understanding these principles, quilters can gain greater confidence and control in their design choices.
MJ will demonstrate how these rules can be used to create dramatic visual effects in quilt design, regardless of inspiration or subject matter. Attendees will learn how to add sparkle and glow, create strong focal points, generate visual movement, and simulate transparency. She will also reveal how to shift the perception of color simply through strategic pairing and how to mimic the look of metal surfaces—without the use of metallic fabrics or threads.
