When discussing authentic Sashiko, people often reference historical pieces, as if Sashiko existed only in the past. Although it is uncommon today to find living artisans creating substantial works such as jackets or blankets, this does not mean they've disappeared—they are still here, actively continuing this practice.
This lecture marks Atsushi’s first opportunity to showcase these significant works through both photographs and physical samples on stage, allowing attendees to connect tangibly with the beauty of living Sashiko.
Every stitched piece embodies a unique story. Historical Sashiko leaves us to imagine those narratives; however, in this presentation, you'll hear stories from the artisans who created these pieces. Atsushi’s hope is this lecture inspires pride and a deeper appreciation for attendees own stitching journeys and the stories they carry within their stitches.
CART (Real-Time Captioning) will be provided for all lectures in the Lecture Hall.
